I really enjoyed this discussion because it reinforces my personal experience. It is good to reinforce the importance of using [modeling, teaching] emotional intelligence. It ties in well with the Hurumanu focus- teaching puberty through Drama. Understanding and conveying emotions are important skills for an actor. We all benefit from empathy and self awareness. We have been talking about emotional intelligence.

social equity in New Zealand schools
It comes as no surprise to me to read that NZ schools have become increasingly inequitable since the mid 1980's. I moved into fulltime motherhood in 1986 an returned to the full-time state system in 1999- the change was shocking.

Scandanavian- first names, dress down, feed everyone, don't punish those without equipment.
Incorporating Te Reo- Year 12 have been challenged buy our principal to incorporate more Maori language into our kura. I have printed a chart of Maori Greetings for my form class and incorporated in this weeks NCEA Drama leaning - on RITUALS.

TAI - using digital feedback: filming students
Term 3: NCEA devising process requires evidence of student process, for which blogging is ideal evidence. I have set up a folder where I record each weeks process and also posters in the learning space. Week 3 I am doing an exit survey of student engagement.
FOCUS students- yr 11 student RA; student MC, student JT
Feedback term 2
JOANNE - Feedback
|
Like that you are trying a variety of things with your team.
Like the videoing feedback but obviously this is hugely time consuming
|
It is interesting the different ways we can give feedback to students, visually is always a great way for students to see how to improve.
|
What strategies can you put in place to allow the students to be more accountable
What programs are students able to download on their own Chromebook so they can record thinks themself.
|
TAI PLAN
HUNCH- Students forget oral feedback- it needs to be “rewindable” with specific feedforward link- self-management
Term 1 work
Reflection - film student work NCEA Drama and share via google
Not focused on the 3 nominated students
Issues-
- students don’t know how to access
- don’t look at in own time
- my camera requires download to hard drive and upload to google - time consuming on teache
REFLECTION
meeting of HHS PLG group 6/05/19
discussion with colleague Br
- management of technology - making it more accessible for students to watch video
- making feedback more specific, eg: 3 things about voice
- game incentive- "magic word= reward" try and get more students to look at videos
PLG Cluster meeting 21/05.19
Discussed progress as we move into the CREATE phase; good idea from Joanne [primary] re visual feedback. I have made a doc to trial -

Drama NZ Conference 2019

Musical Passion
REFLECTION - link with Arinui
For over 6 months I have worked with the Canterbury etc Branch of DramaNZ to plan a national conference; this involved working with national executive committee as well. I regularly attended meetings, have heaps of email, sourced items for conference bags, filled bags, manned registration desk, decorated dinner tables, cleaned up the venue and generally tried to be helpful.
"Strong, Resilient, Creative" a theme for Christchurch still in EQ recovery with lots of new buildings and change going on seemed app. After the Mosque attacks in Christchurch it became even more apt and more important to gather together and celebrate and sustain the creativity required of Drama teachers. Collaboration is essential to the theatre arts and building networks of like-minded, supportive colleagues is essential.
I presented a piece about HHS Passion Projects- one colleague said it sounded like I taught at an awesome school.
The committee paid a part fee, somewhat controversial, given the time and effort expended. At school we have told PD funding is for school directed projects, all very worthy, but for re-energising, directly impacting my classroom practice, up-skilling myself as an artist I find myself paying [for conference and for Zen Zen Zo training]. Good to hear DramaNz has funding for some PD subject based projects. People I mentioned my TAI to [about video feedback] were interested- will I be able to knit the threads of my professional learning journey together?
