Intro in action
DESIGN - group site
Resources on HHS Drama site
In 2019 a group of Canterbury/Westland teachers, myself included embarked on a professional learning project with the support of DramaNZ.
I planned to add Events and Entertainment Costume design tasks and have been woking towards that. This has expanded due to the Covid 19 situation as I have substuited the Research standards
[ 3.5/2/5/1/5] for our planned production. We are still working aound the same text [A Midsummer's Night Dream] to incorportate as much performance as possible but now we have optios to work and gain credits[ indivisually and at home if required.
April- May
Working with Liisa [ Fabrics] and making the sample swatches.
In terms of future school learning I am thinking about a design course: set / costumes which could incoperate a range of assessments and link with a performance course. If teachers didn't have to be in the same box with students 4 hours a week 2 or 3 techers could be resource teachers for the design projects. This would rely on student's being self-motivated to work on their project- using all the resources including teachers,
Working with Art Dept[ Rowena] on design vocabulary, making links- awesome video explaining Gestalt .
Working with Science- arranged a demo of fabric flammability with science technician, will video this she can come to class and do a demo.
Currently making resources on set design and our context: A Midsummer Night's Dream- for 3.5 specifically, but also with 2.5/1.5 as both my NCEA ensembles are multi level.
My Inquiry:
Focusing Inquiry
What do I need to engage performing arts students in stage design processes [Events & Entertainment Technology], How can we meaningfully connect these processes with performance tasks? How can I build an understanding of design process so students can identify and describe them in a production context?
In PRACTISE: we are going to do NCEA tasks on costume design in conjunction with our Term 3 Production.
